Hot flightcase tip for everyone taking SP2 on the road: Traktor Case

Hey y’all! Long post incoming.

I’ve been playing liveshows with SP2 every other week or so, and while it’s still a pretty long setup time (def not worth for a rushed 30 min bar gig with other bands), I found some cool solutions for organizational issues I was having on the road and abroad:

- laptop + portal during shows. I found most music stands too flimsy to trust a $2k+ setup with, and I always needed both within reach, with possibly a tiny footprint (never enough space on stage). I had a default small hard suitcase that sort of worked, but I had to raise my laptop with a stand to sit above the portal, and that became a balancing act as well.
- Cable and sensor mess. I had already wrapped the sensor mini jack cables together to avoid cable spaghetti, but there is a ton of usb and power cables going everywhere, and the sensors were just in my bag.
- Power. Using SP2, a MacBook and an SPD SX, I need 3 outlets if I don’t bring my own extension chord.

Enter the Traktor s4 DJ flightcase!

This is a (relatively) affordable, yet perfect solution!

  • The dimensions make it so that I can fit the portal in the front, velcro’d for security, and the removable front ledge helps guide the jacks to the sensor.
  • I cut the foam sides to fit sensors for transportation
  • the sliding laptop tray on top is perfect for keeping everything in one place; once I’m done setting everything on the portal, I can slide the laptop on top so the case can never topple on stage, no matter what I set it on.
  • When done, I drop all my multi cables in a cable bag, and put that where the laptop sits now (laptop goes in my backpack)
  • Power: I have one brick that powers all 3 devices, with USB-C to 12V using Power Delivery for Portal. Keeps everything tidy and removes the need for all the different AC plugs

I -feel- like this might be the best way to go about live gigs, but would love to hear any suggestions or tips from you all! Here’s hoping Evans or Gator starts making official ones hah!

PS: now if only Sunhouse had some big stickers to replace the Traktor logo :grimacing:
