How many ply on the mesh head for good triggering?

Hi, I currently have mesh heads coming from Drum-Tec, which are 3 ply (real feel is the name of the product.
I also have a triggering problem : The timber function doesn’t work properly. There’s confusion when I hit in the center sometime (quite often I should say), SP2 triggers an edge hit. It can also be the opposite…
Should I buy different mesh heads ?

(My mesh head adequate old and dirty I know! :grinning:)
Thanks for your help !

Hi @Bo33 !

Yes, multi-ply mesh heads like that tend to be buzzy and don’t offer the best response for Sensory Percussion. We recommend single ply mesh heads.

The Evans dB Zero work great, and last a really long time! Any other single ply mesh head should work equally well for a while, too, but some mesh heads wear out and stretch away from the collar after a lot of use, which doesn’t happen with the dB Zeros.

You can experiment with Evans dB One on the toms and kick, but the dB One snare head is buzzy and won’t work well with Sensory Percussion.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

As @stevenz mentioned, dbZero is great! I’ve been using them on my toms for more than two years now and they work really well. I used them on my snare too until late last year when I switched up the snare with a UV1.

A few months ago, I switched the head on my kick from dbZero to dbOne and it works just as well (and definitely feels better)!
