I am finally getting around to setting up my system... I have some questions regarding drum sizes

Hi All. I think I read somewhere that 14" is the ideal size for the triggers. I have a custom-built set with mini toms (8 10" drums) I know I likely won’t get the full use out of these but will they be okay? Should I opt for larger shells? Does anyone have some recommendations for a larger setup without breaking the bank?

10" toms work fine with SP. We prefer larger drums because on small drums the playing surface can get kinda tight. The sensor takes up more of the playing surface proportionally. Also, the range from center-to-edge on the drum is smaller (for timbre modulators). But it really comes down to your playing style and how you want to program SP.

Keep in mind that the Portal only has 7 drum inputs. If you can get your hands on two v1 sensors, then you can plug those into the XLR jacks to get a total of 9 drums.

Let me know if that helps!

Perfect thanks. I didn’t realize about the Sensor 1 thing. That’s great. I will likely end up purchasing an additional module and sensors to expand the kit at some point. I have the seven triggers now, and even without having set them up, I know they will be perfect for me. So much easier than when I was younger, programming chords using multiple pads.
