Macbook Neo question

Hi. I’m thinking about getting a dedicated computer for my Sensory set up. I’m currently swapping in and out a computer that has lots of other uses.

Has anyone used one of the new MacBook Neo models? If so how was it? Did it handle things well? I’m currently running SP on a MacBook Air M1 with no issues and it’s my understanding that the Neo is similar in its capabilities.

Thanks

Hi Lupo,

Don’t you have any latency issue with your M1 ?

I use a 6 cores i7 Mac mini and latency is my main problem with SP…

I think Neo is slower that M1 and i7 (but I may be wrong), that’s why I talk you about latency.

We haven’t tested the Neo specifically, but I have heard good things.

The big consideration is the amount of RAM it has. All the samples in your currently open session get loaded into RAM. So it might limit the size of your session. If you open the Activity Monitor on your current computer, you can get a sense of the amount of RAM that SP uses for your session size.

But if anyone does get one of these, we’d really like to hear how it goes! They look pretty sweet.

Thanks for the reply. I have no latency issues with my M1, sometimes I get artefacts if I have the sample rate high and the buffer size low.

Thanks @tenoch. Having a quick look at the activity monitor with the core sounds I can see that the biggest session uses around 5 GB of RAM on my M1 Air. If the Neo handles things well then it does seem like it could be a good dedicated SP machine…
