MIDI Output 'Retrig'

I am trying to send MIDI out to an external synth. Is there a way to send MIDI notes to a synth that don’t overlap each other without adjusting ‘length (ms)’? With an audio sampler, this can be done by hitting the ‘Retrig’ button.
