New Output settings in Beta Version....Is a game changer

Man, the new Beta adds some major changes that are amazing! One, the additional triggers is a game changer to play a more traditional rock kit. We are doing a full one 2 one drum conversion with this setup. Not Hybrid. Two, you can now use any output device hooked up to the computer to output from. We use Dante VSC and can now output as many channels as we want (up to 64). This allows so many options for mixing the kit for us. Also, cleans up the cables to a single network cable instead of a snake. Looking forward to more acoustic kit and cymbal patches down the road, but so far, pretty awesome setup.

Interesting, wonder if now that you can use any output on the computer, does this mean you can get further latency reduction/dsp stability if you’re using a more robust audio interface as your main output(Like an RME PCIE card)?

It’s possible. If you use a different output than the portal, latency should be determined on the output source. We did not see any additional latancy introduced by dante output.

Thanks for sharing your findings!

I’m not personally excited about “more” acoustic kit and cymbal samples. I would be excited about better quality samples. More microphones to play with. Room mics, ambient mics. That sort of thing. Then maybe I wouldn’t need SD3 to get the drum sounds I’m looking for. The native sp2 cymbal samples are particularly off putting to me. Don’t hear me wrong Sunhouse. I LOVE sp2, and am considering purchasing a 2nd full set. I just want the acoustic kits to sound better.

Another solution would be to improve midi triggering, so it’s as good as the native sp2 kit triggering and articulation response

Modulations would be sweet, like guitar cabs emulators allow you to choose mic setup and distance to change the sound. We have layered some of the sunhouse sounds with other snare samples to dial in the sound. Toms sound awesome. Would love to get a few more kick options and cymbal sounds. We have toyed with the idea of over heads on the low volume cymbals to blend the sound to get a more live sound.

The problem is the low volume cymbals sound too tinny. For me anyway. Wish they didn’t.

I have wondered if it would be possible to output native sp2 acoustic sounds along with sd3 kit sounds . That might be an improvement. I wonder if that could be done?

Hi @scoTTTimo thanks for the feedback. Have you tried the new Midi Kit output module with the templates? What is still not working for you as far as sending midi out of SP to other samplers?

@tenoch yes I’ve tried the new midi template for sd3. It doesn’t seem any better than the original one you guys put out.

Primarily the issue is hi hat open/close articulations, splashes, and cymbal chokes. I get hi hat articulations that are close, but aren’t quite right in SD3. Don’t get me wrong it’s good, and I’m using it that way live, but the articulations with native sp2 kits are more accurate. The sp2 native hi hat response is just better. So realistic. The sp2 native cymbal chokes are better too. Quicker to respond, and more realistic.

This is incredibly helpful feedback. Until the sounds in SP2 have overheads and room mics and do all the things SD3 does or the MIDI triggering of SD3 by SP2 is as good as natively inside SP2, I don’t see how switching to SP2 would be a net gain unfortunately. Would love to know when that gap is filled.
