Remember...Velocity triggered Samples/Modules play at different Volumes

Just a consideration I ran into…maybe there are work arounds I’m not aware of.

If I want Velocity to trigger different pitches (for example), I noticed the Notes played will always be at the quiet or loud volumes they were triggered with.

The solution is fairly simple. Adjust the I/O Velocity curve of the triggered sample or Group/Modules DOWNSTREAM from the Velocity control or assignment. That way quiet hits can still trigger desired Volume and hard hits can be leveled down to the same volume. You can either do a straight line I/O across at desired velocity or a smaller range curve (which will still favor loud/quiet differences, but not as extreme.

I just made a Group called Volume Smoother and used it as a placeholder with desired I/O leveling and placed all Velocity Controlled samples/modules inside it.

Compression probably works too, but probably not as well.

Hey @SacredBlasphemy, great point! And that’s a great solution for this kind of tonal control: when you want the notes to change, but the tonal sound to not be velocity sensitive.

Feel free to post your Volume Smoother layer if you would like. I whipped this together, which is probably pretty similar:

velo pitched scale_with non-velo sensitive tones.sp2 (4.2 KB)

Just replace the sampler with whatever tonal sound/s you like and set the scale & range to taste

Best,
