Routing individual zones to different midi tracks in Ableton

Hi All,

I’m having a blast with SP so far. The software is a lot to wrap my head around, but it’s coming slowly. The support so far has been amazing!

This question relates to routing midi out to Ableton. So far, I have been able to create a set that takes individual zones in SP and maps them to specific notes on a single midi channel in Ableton. I am using this to quickly test out the many different drum rack presets in Ableton and it works great.

I want to take this a step further and send the SP zones to different tracks in Ableton. For example, Tom1 rim tip sends note E2 to Midi Track 3; whereas Tom2 edge sends note F2 to midi track 4, and so on. My hope is to use this to trigger different synths and Ableton plugins that I am already using directly from SP.

Cheers!

The quickest way to do this is to create a group that filters only inputs from a specific zone, and then within that zone put a midi router or generator, then create a “midi out” channel that sends Midi to the channel you want via IAC bus etc, and then place your Ableton device to only receive from that specific IAC. If you don’t have a Mac, Windows has third party apps to accomplish the same thing. If you can be more specific I can make a quick template for you and drop it here

Thanks for the response. I am on Windows, so I guess I need to look at a 3rd party app. Any suggestions? It makes sense what you are saying about the group that filters out a single input. I’ll see if I can get it set up. If you do have a template, that would, of course, be much appreciated.

Thanks!

The easiest way to do this is just to set up unique MIDI notes for each zone of each drum and then filter and repitch these notes on a track by track basis in Ableton. So, for example if your snare centre zone is sending C1 but you want it to play D1 in Ableton, then on the Ableton track you are using filter out all other notes except C1 (using a MIDI rack) and then repitch the note to the desired pitch using either the Pitch device or the Scale device. Here’s how the MIDI rack would look with the scale device:

Thanks! I’ll give this a try.

It worked perfectly! Thanks MNDMTH.
