Anyone having a problem installing sensors on rims? I have this issue on my vintage tama superstar snare drum.
Hi @tomekpop - vintage rims can sometimes be tricky. I’d recommend trying to loosen the lugs on either side of your sensor (or tighten the other lugs) and try to tighten the top screw on the sensor more. That will raise the front of the sensor to make it more parallel with the head.
Hard to tell from the picture, but is the bottom hook of the sensor fitting correctly under the rim?
I am putting together a kit using the DW Design Series Piccolo Toms. They are high quality (good heavy steel material with precision tolerances) that will work well with the Evans dB Zero and Sensory Percussion, providing an accurate, precise, and stable drum geometry for optimal sensor functionality. However, the shells are 1/32” larger in radius than standard acoustic drums, and this exceeds the radial clearance of the sensors. I found a simple and adjustable fix. Loosen the screws that hold together the housing for the shell-contact foot. This allows the foot to “lean” outward to compensate for the increased clearance. The leverage of the clamp on the hoop will push this out to its maximum “lean”. These screws can then be finely tuned to adjust the “lean” until the sensor is parallel to the drum head surface.
I have some pictures showing the problem (first 2) and the fix (last 2). It looks like the same issue you have on your tama snare.
