You can add any midi device through SP2, and train individual midi notes as “zones”. You don’t get all of the nuance of an SP sensor, but you can use CCs from the positional sensing to get damn close! And the sequencer and velocity/speed modules are awesome
Question about pre-ordering! Is there a limited number of units available and/or a specific date by which it would be advisable to pre-order?
I definitely want to get the bundle, but as I’m in India and would require someone to bring them to me from the US, I’m currently waiting for more information on both shipping dates and travel dates for anyone who would be able to bring them before committing to a pre-order. Is there a date by which you know you might be able to confirm shipping?
Hi @rrv24 - we don’t have an exact ship date set yet - but we’re targeting the last week of January for US orders and shortly after that for the rest.
@tenoch Great news about the new cymbal sensors. Will there be a new software revision of the SP software coming out in the near future? I have a hybrid drum set and their has been a bit of misfiring on the snare when my hihat is being played, I had to increase the threshold to make it work but lost some subtle ghost notes. Wondering how the new cymbals will mitigate these issues? Also wondering what is the onboard mic for? Does the algorithm use it to not pick up hi-hat sounds on the snare etc?
This is very exciting news!
As someone who has a big kit, is it feasible to connect more than one SP Portal to a computer? I could very easily utilize 14 sensor inputs between drums and cymbals.
Hmm, that’s not possible as of yet. We don’t support using two interfaces at the same time, and the Ableton Plugin doesn’t support multiple instances.
But I hear you about having more inputs – it’s something we’re looking at with Evans.
Hey @SomaSays - we have a fix for that snare/hi-hat issue, but it got stuck in development/testing pipeline because we had to switch focus on the cymbal launch. But it’ll get released after the holidays. Probably on the Beta channel first.
The onboard-mic was mostly just a cool thing to include. You can do some quick-and-dirty drum recording with it (select it as an Analog Insert). Or you can use it to do some vibed out processing. We don’t have any features that specifically rely on it at this point, but it’s in the back of our minds…
I ordered the full cymbal/HH pack, but I’m wondering, could I use the XLR inputs for them? I’m already at 6 V2 sensors, and I’d like to keep using all of them.
This is fantastic work Sunhouse! Impressive implementation. May I ask a fellow e-drum nerd question? Would love to know what kind of approach you’ve taken with the hi hat to get open and close with a single sensor. Is it hall effect / magnet perhaps?
This is great news. Can I preorder in the UK? Can’t work out who the preorder is available for.
Edit: scratch that, I think I’ve worked out that UK can preorder. What a time to be alive.
Preordered! Any chance of offering sensors a la cart to fill out the cymbal pack?
Can 2 hats be used on the same system
Hi @digdoug, thanks for ordering the cymbal sensor expansion pack! We will eventually be selling the sensors on their own without the low-volume cymbals, but they will likely be the same price (or higher). This pre-order deal includes the low volume cymbals for free, so you’re really just paying for the sensors.
Yes, absolutely! You can mix and mix match drum/cymbal sensor inputs however you like. You would just need to make sure to have one hi-hat input as “hi-hat 1” and the other “hi-hat 2”.
Thank you
Hello,
I apologize if this question has been answered. Can I run the hi hat setup directly into my Edrummin’ module and have it trigger Addictive Drums via a Mac Mini? Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Kevin
