SP requests or suggestions

Damn SP is an amazing tool !
I actually don’t know why I didn’t jump on this instrument earlier.

As fun and creative it is, there are some few things I’d be happy to see appear.
Probably some of them are not doable, but let’s give it a try:

  • I’m finding myself using sequencers a lot, to have tracks drastically evolving. The thing is that quickly, we can’t see the whole sequencer, as the module is “too small”. I’m wondering if the possibility to extend each individual module (or track), in both direction (down and right) to be able to see the full thing, would be an option.

  • Regarding the sequencer, I’d be glad to see a way to erase or add a step in it, but a chosen one, and not just the last one. As it, it would be way easier to work on complicated tracks.
    (does that make sens ?)

  • Using some strange hardware controlled via midi, I’m also wondering if the length of the midi note that SP send could be modulated. That would be awesome.

  • Any chance the software integrates direct recording from an audio input of the portal ? That would make the soft a powerful tool, like a sampler on the go, with all the parameters here, that would be killer.

  • Back to my eternal question about some synthesis module..!

By the way, thanks a thousand times for the work you’re doing on both software and hardware.
This is actually ridiculous how good it is !
I’m now working on a live drum solo (to be played pretty soon) with it, but digging it a lot, it will also become my main tool for live electronic music, as it’s so flexible.

Best !

Yes to all of these! #’s 2,3,4 I also have had to find workarounds for!

I commend you on your words, and must also agree that the flexibility and precision that this instrument honors drum set musicians is unprecedented. I am in awe of the responsiveness and am encouraged. Yes; I very much struggle to rekindle all the dreams I once had for anything like this expansive option for digital musical landscapes. It has truly placed expert sound design before my clunky, previously limited body. This widens doorways for those who have committed a lifetime to the art of rhythmic persuasions.

Still in huge fun times here.
Achieving a lot with SP !

Wondering if the Random Step, Enveloppe and so on, added to the Macro section would be an option for the next future ?

Going back to mess with sounds.

Hi @LeMouton ,

Thanks for the kind words! So glad you’re enjoying Sensory. Wanted to respond to some of your questions here.

Regarding sequencers, the idea of a more expandable design is very interesting, and I’ll pass that along to our developers. Maybe you already know this, but there is an expanded “matrix view” of the sequencer that allows you to quickly adjust the relationship between the steps of the sequence and the submodules inside of the sequencer. If you’re looking to add a submodule to the middle of the sequence, you can simply drag/drop it to the middle. But if you’re looking to add an empty step in the middle, then yes the only way currently is to add an empty step to the end and then adjust things in the matrix view.

If you’d like to see these empty steps listed in the submodules list so that the number of steps always matched the number of submodules, one “hack” is to take any sample, turn the gain all the way down, and rename it “empty” or something like that. Screen recording attached showing some of this matrix view.

For your 3rd bullet point regarding MIDI note length, those values can be set within Sensory (see screenshot below), but they currently cannot be modulated assignments. Again, cool idea that might not be super difficult to pull off. If you’re sending MIDI to a synth or something that has its own ADSR controls, one workaround is to send a velocity-sensitive MIDI CC knob from Sensory and map it to the decay of the synth, which will effectively modulate the length of the note.

Regarding your 4th bullet point, yes you can record directly from an audio input using the built-in recording feature! It’s super fun to sample and re-sample yourself that way. Below is a screen recording showing how you can do that and quickly get some crazy sound design stuff going. (Pro tip: If you add the “recordings” folder to your favorites tab in the Sensory Percussion library, you can quickly pull these recordings into your set without having to go into finder/file explorer).

A built-in synth module would be rad and is definitely on our roadmap, but we don’t have an exact timeline on that right now.

Hey @Patrick, thanks for your time and answer.

Great if some of these features look like an easy task for you !
That’s amazing.
About the modulation of Midi length, that would be helpful for some hardware I’ll use, which are not synth. I’ll play with a modified organ, and there’s no ADSR on it !! Haha.

Oh yes, I see the recording section, which is a nice and handy one.
What I was thinking was maybe more like another module, looking exactly the same as the usual sampler, but with a “record” button in it. No need to drag samples in this one, just route an audio input and record directly inside, to be able to play the sound you just recorded without any manipulation. And with modulators, that would be a crazy way to have, for example, the “record button” activated while you’re playing, to be able to catch sounds and play with it directly. It’s more like a “live” module than a “sound design one” as it’s not necessary to have it saving the sounds for another session. An audio tool with simple but really powerful parameters.

Regarding the sequencer options, that would be rad to be able to swap, erase or add a step in the matrix view. Something like dragging step 6 in the place of step 9, which would make the modification of a track way easier !

Oh, that’s so good to read you have a synthesis module on the roadmap. This is great news !

Thanks again for your feedbacks.

Oh yes, two last suggestion, that would be very handy for precise actions.

  • Would it be possible to have a sequencer acting as a modulator, on all the parameters ?
  • Having the “cycle, random, reverse, manual” options to be modulated would be a little fun parameter. Switching between “cycle” and “random” while you’re playing could be fun.

Ok I stop here, you already created the perfect tool !

(hope I’m clear enough, excuse my approximate english)
