Using an ipad as an analog i/p

I have several apps on the iPad that I want to play along with I.e. Moises, Jammer, Erskn Jazz etc. can I set up an analog I/p? Is the 1/4 plug stero? As I understand from a training video after this is set up I can drag it to a global setting and it will function across all kit?

I did get it to work as a analog I/p. I tried several inputs “C” first than “A” direct mic in on the front of the interface. If I used a stero plug the audio sounded weak and distant. I switched to a mono plug and it worked perfectly. But while playing a kit there is some latency. I am working on resolving this issue.
I am going to try taking the main outs to my mixer and than routing everything to the main speakers. I don’t know if I’ll still experience the latency but we’ll see

Hi @Frank-F all the plugs on the portal are mono. So if you want to get a stereo signal in from your iPad, you’ll want to use a Y splitter or breakout cable. Something like this would work:

You should be able to plug into the aux inputs on the back of the portal and then adjust the volume output on the iPad till you get a good level.

Then you’ll want to add an Audio Insert module to your set to get the audio routed in. You can put that in the global set if you want it everywhere.

Tenoch, I have tried the aux suggestion and it works but the volume is low, even with the iPad at max. However i have a move immediate problem. I have a desktop Mac Studio with my kit setup across the room. So, as i make adjustments i go to the kit for testing. during a testing session i tripped on a cable and broke the connector going into the interface. Do you have additional cables available? SP was purchased on 8/6 so five days later I’m facing an unfortunate accident. I am looking into the purchase of a mac laptop but that doesn’t fix my problem now. Suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Frank,

I’d recommend getting in touch directly with D’Addario about the cable. I’m sure they can send you one. However, the portal uses a very standard USB 2.0 over USB-C cable. So pretty much any data cable will work. Even a $10 one from Amazon. You could even opt for a longer one if that would help with your setup – up to 15 ft should be fine to use.

For the ipad issue – if you’re not getting enough signal from the ipad, you could try plugging it into the front combo ports and using the knobs to boost the gain – you risk increasing the noise floor, but if it’s just to play along to then it might be fine. Let me know how that goes.
