I have seen some playing drums, single mesh head and with woodhoop. How does the difference feel, compared to general metal hoop? Is there less noise when playing on the edge of the hoop? Are there better trigger responses, tip or shoulder of stick? Too soft playing?
Does anyone play with rubber on the edge of a metal hoop? How are the trigger responses then?
thanks in advance
Jesper
Hey, Jesper. I can’t speak to the use of wood hoops vs metal hoops, but I can say with certainty that rubber’s a no-go with the Sensory Percussion v2 sensors on metal hoops. The sensors won’t properly mount to the hoop if you have rubber installed.
Rubber is ABSOLUTELY a go for the V2 triggers, although I have run into issues with some thicker rims. For rubber protecters, you can either order them online or make them out of automotive tubing and an exacto knife. Just cut a notch in them wide enough to allow the triggers and you’re set. Worth the expense of like $20. You can also cut them in half and only have rubber on the closer side near you.
As to wood vs metal, just make sure you train the trigger on the rim you are using and they all three work fantastic
